Last year, Vale House launched its campaign to raise £2.4 million to help pay for the charity’s new care home at Sandford on Thames. The campaign has been pioneered by a committee of business leaders from Oxfordshire who understand the importance of the care home to the people of Oxfordshire and wanted to play their part in securing the future of the charity.

As part of their campaign, the committee applied to a range of grant making bodies that support projects such as the Vale House new care home development.
The campaign couldn’t have got off to a better start with their first application to the Sir Jules Thorn Trust. The Trust is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of disease and the care of the sick and the disadvantaged. The Charity makes grants to numerous charitable causes throughout the United Kingdom in support of medical research, medicine generally and charities engaged in humanitarian work.
“The Trust was very pleased to be able to assist with the fund-raising appeal and thus to help enable Vale House to continue its wonderful work in its superb new care home at Sandford”, David Richings, Director, The Sir Jules Thorn Charitable TrustThe result of the application was an amazing grant of £250,000 awarded by the trust to go towards the construction costs of the new home.
“We are delighted that the Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust has made such a significant grant to the Vale House development. Their support of this pioneering new care home will help hundreds of people in Oxfordshire receive the care and support they need at such a difficult time in their life. Living with dementia impacts not only the person but also their friends and family – the effect can be devastating and that is why it is so important that Vale House has the ability to go on and support more people now and into the future through the growth of their service. We thank the Sir Jules Thorn Trust for helping us to make great strides with our appeal for the new Vale House care home, “ Richard Dick, chair of the Vale House Appeal Committee.
